Emily’s story is one of resilience and transformation. Fleeing a violent relationship, she boarded a bus to Pittsburgh, leaving behind years of addiction, homelessness, and fear. Once a pastor’s daughter, she struggled for years, alienated from her family and weakened in faith. After arriving in Pittsburgh and facing homelessness, Emily knew she had to change. Completing rehab, she learned she was expecting, which reignited her determination for a better future. With a high-risk pregnancy due to a mechanical heart valve, Emily prayed for guidance and found City Mission’s Women with Children Shelter. Here, she received a safe place to stay, nutritious meals, and the love and support needed to prepare for her new life.
In time, Emily gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Faith—a miracle that marked the beginning of a new chapter. Through City Mission’s biblical counseling and life skills classes, she addressed the root of her struggles and rebuilt her life. She restored relationships with her family and moved into a home of her own with her daughter. Now, Emily hopes to help other women overcome addiction and find freedom in faith. Her story is a testament to the power of support, faith, and your generosity.
